Motto: Freedom & Peace

Under the watchword of 'Freedom and peace for Europe and Russia’, as tensions between the West and Russia continue, we aim to help break the deadlock by building a bridge between 'East' and 'West’.

A bridge between Eastern and Western Europe

Arnhem is a city which bridges the Rhine. It was at the Battle of Arnhem that Allied forces, made up of British, American and Polish troops, fought for freedom and peace. Fewer people are quick to acknowledge the contribution made by the other great liberating power, the Soviet Union, which lost no fewer than 26 million in its struggle to liberate Europe. By way of this peace march, we aim to do our bit to improve relations between Russia and the rest of Europe by emphasising what we have in common.

Peace march

We are asking Russians and former Soviet citizens living in the Netherlands to join us and, together with the Dutch people, march across the bridge which links the two banks of the Rhine. Bring along, if you can, a photograph of a loved one who died during the Second World War.

Peace concert

Following the march there will a major concert including:

  • From Moscow, the 12-strong Russian Orthodox choir, Zlatoust (‘Golden Voice') directed by Mikhail Borodyansky

  • Leading Dutch pianist Martin Oei will be playing:
    o Anatoli Ljadov (1855-1914)
Barcarolle op. 44 in F-sharp major for piano
    o Sergej Rachmaninov (1873-1943)
    Preludes op. 23, nr. 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6
    Moment musical op. 16, nr. 4 in e minorCost - € 29,5 pp

Tickets: € 29,50

We hope that many Dutch and Russians will join us in marching through Arnhem for freedom and peace. Participation is free but we would ask you to register beforehand. You can do this by sending a message to info@ruslandacademie.nlwith the subject heading ‘Registration for Peace March'. In this way we can keep you up-to-date about the programme.
